The Majors championship series, second game. If we lose, our season is over.
After the regulation 6 innings, the game is tied, 5 runs each. Landon is called on to pitch.
He strikes out the first batter. Nice!
Then, not so nice. Two runs score, the bases are loaded. There are 2 outs.
Coach goes out to talk to his pitcher. Despite his mother's painful pleas, Landon knows the next
pitch matters. The next pitch could mean the difference between devastation and emancipation.
One pitch..................the batter hits it right back to Landon. He fields it and triumphantly tosses the ball to the first baseman. Inning over; emancipation. Landon is free to trot off the field
It wasn't a "lights out" performance, but it was a gutsy one.
Our turn to bat, Landon leads off.
He battles, but he strikes out. Thru a grandfather's eyes, he looked good doing it.
Thru a grandfather's eyes, the called third strike was low and outside.
Our next batter, a mountain of a man/boy legs out an infield hit, despite a remarkable play by their shortstop. Nice!
Then,,,,,,,,,,,it gets even nicer! Timely hits, daring base running, almost but not quite catches; the game is tied!
Somebody has to win; somebody has to lose. It's the nature of the game.
On this day there is no devastation for Landon's team. They win, 8 to 7,
Landon did not get a game winning hit, or make a big play in the field. But that gutsy inning pitched...
Thru a grandfather's eyes, he is a hero.
